A Tribal repository

Expanding on the idea of the “book group”, the aim of the Tribal Repository is to generate shared culture “offline”, that is, not face to face nor in shared time. It takes the pressure off meeting but affords us opportunities to share ideas – books, music and films that are important to us as individuals. Discussion around these things is optional.

Participants contribute a book, a musical item, and a film item, per month. As I see it the main commodity and concern in this is time, so I’d give a time value to each type of artefact. I suggest 10 hours per book (dependant on length), 3 hours per CD (3 listens minimum), 2 hours for lecture/sermon/audiobook, and 2 hours for film. I’d then allot 15 hours per month – 1 book, 1 CD and 1 movie, for example – for consumption.

So if you are in you need to find about 15 hours per month. At the start of the month, when all are meeting “online” – face to face in shared time, all items are brought and exchanged, then returned 4 weeks later. We can blog the monthly repository and then review in comments.
