We met on the 13th July, to … draw.

About 12 adults and 4 under 10’s gathered on a cold but sunny Cape morning. Each person was given an A1 sheet (that’s 8 A4’s) and some charcoal sticks. Theresa, facilitating and DJing, played several varied pieces of music, ranging from The William Tell overture to Dead Can Dance. We were asked to respond by “taking the charcoal for a walk”. Various screeches and shrieks ensued, (as well as many a black hand), as everyone threw themselves into the liturgy. Continue reading us and them. and charcoal….

Southern Yule: A winter consolation

June 30, 2008 at 3:51 pm | In community, emergent spirituality, meditation | 3 Comments

Elena Filatova's ChernobylWe met on Sun 29th June for a winter meditation and feast, the meditation curated by Mike and the feast by an assortment of chefs.

Brrr. It was cold, very fitting. Initially we were asked to tell of our personal winters, or perhaps, just one of them.

Most people could identify and name the deepest winters, the darkest nights of the soul, that they had endured. These ranged from existential crises – near suicide, doubt and despair; to career change and business failure; to sheer meaninglessness and dwarstrekking (aimless wondering).

A question of experience – A personal Godde

June 12, 2008 at 3:57 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

At our gathering, on Sunday 1 June,  we had an intimate look at each other’s personal experience of Godde. Tim lead the morning and had four questions/points which we examined and used as  a process leading into prayer.

The first question was:  When did you first become aware of Godde and what was your first distinct experience of Godde? The group was small and we were able to each take a turn in answering the question. The second question was dealt with in the same manner, we were asked to express our present relationship with Godde. Continue reading A question of experience – A personal Godde…

A Play of Light: A theodrama of faith and photons

May 28, 2008 at 3:53 pm | In cape town, emergent spirituality, worship | 1 Comment

We’ve been playing with light – a complex subject, but that’s all the more reason to have fun with it. And in fact, our initial section on Saturday evening (after an introduction from Andrew) dealt with the complexity of light from a physicist’s perspective. Christina gave us a fascinating display of some of the cooler toys involving light – including a light mill (or radiometer if you prefer), and an intriguing application of a laser pointer… Continue reading A Play of Light: A theodrama of faith and photons…

“Walk with me to Golgotha …” Gathering in remembrance of Jesus’

On Sunday the 4th of May we met at Nick and Anne’s house for a change. In contrast to the usual coffee, muffins and boisterous chats, singing or drumming before the start of the session we picked up candles to light at the altar and sat in quiet contemplation on the carpet.

Proposed : A play of light

May 5, 2008 at 12:18 pm | In emergent spirituality, movement | 7 Comments

Hi All thought I’d workshop this here.

A play of light: A theodrama of faith and photons

- In the dark
[Christina] “Light : wave or particle?”

Our unknowing about the nature of light and uncertainty about the nature of G-d

- Impressions
[Ann] “Transient beauty”
Debussy, Monet and Hopkins

- Parallax
[Andrew] : What we see depends entirely on our point of view.
The drama depends on this ambiguity. Use own paintings.

- I once was blind
[Mike] “Transitions, transformations, liminality”

- The ongoing drama of creation
[Angela] The first words of which are “Let there be light”

- Light of the world
[Tim] The grand theme revisited ; Heb 1, Mt 5, Star of wonder…

- Making Light
[Theresa] A theology of play and a playful theology, divine recreation and homo ludens.
Life as a game of Love

- Celebration: Festival of lights

- Responses
“We see though a glass, darkly. Light of the world, reveal yourself.”

- Rituals
- Light candles – “I once was blind but now I see [insert your own vision here]“
- Have a go at the sacremental camera
